Waterfront Master Plan Working Group:
Important Notice for any and all Interested Stakeholders

As part of their broad consultative outreach, on Monday, Oct. 6 and Tues. Oct 7, the planning and design consultants will hold a number of stakeholder sessions to hear from groups and organizations that provide waterfront-based programs and activities for the community. The sessions will focus on how groups use the waterfront and their anticipated future needs to maintain or enhance their programming or usage.  Hour long time slots are being scheduled.  If groups or associations have similar uses or programming, they may be invited together in the same time slot. Contact Kris Hebert as soon as possible if you are interested. (khebert@cityofkingston.ca or 613-546-1256)
If you are an individual with particular waterfront concerns, you are also invited to express your wishes and needs to Kris Hebert (khebert@cityofkingston.ca or 613-546-4291 x 1256).
The second public meeting has now been scheduled for Wed. Nov. 26, 2014.  Your input is honestly welcomed!

Kingston’s municipal election will be on Monday October 27, 2014, with remote (telephone and internet) voting commencing on October 14th and advance polls open on October 18th.  (https://www.cityofkingston.ca/city-hall/elections/candidates/key-dates)

A question attached to the ballot is:
Are you in favour of a casino being located in the City of Kingston? Yes. No.

FYI: No Casino Kingston has registered to campaign on this question.  Their aims are to inform citizens of the negative impact a local casino would have on our community (the economic losses alone would be significant); to use candidates’ meetings, emails, and social and traditional media to disseminate this information; to promote voter turnout and ultimately to win the referendum by at least 60%.  In last year’s pole of subscribers to our Friends of Kington Inner Harbour news updates over 95% of respondents said no to a casino in Kingston.
The website www.nocasinokingston.ca has a lot of  interesting information collected over the last two years. Have a look to make up your own mind regarding this issue.  Feel free to share the information with friends and associates.  Other ways of being involved could include writing letters to the editor, speaking with/asking questions of nominated candidates, displaying signs and/or making a financial contribution to the campaign. Cheques made out to No Casino Kingston can be sent to 36 Alma St. Kingston K7K 1J6.

This past weekend has seen the usual third weekend in September activity in the park including:
The Boiler Room’s 4th annual Climb for the Cure and the 15th annual Kingston Dragon Boat Festival.  These events are always wonderful and add so much to the park and the neighbourhood.  We are most grateful to both of these organizations for their wonderful work.  Next year we are hoping to get Rick Mercer to participate and also to do a rant on our amazing wall!!!  Wouldn’t that be fun! Remember to check out the calendar on our webpage www.friendsofinnerharbour.com for updates on all events.

As always, thank you so very much for your ongoing support.
Truly appreciated!
Cheers,
Mary Farrar,
President,
