January Newsletter 2017

Dear Friends of Kingston Inner Harbour,
Thankfully a relatively quiet entry into the new year regarding upcoming meetings and concerns – so far!
Two meetings of note:

1) The Frontenac Heritage Foundation’s talk:
Speaker: Peter Gower
Topic: The Outer Station: Past and Present.

Kingston’s 1855 Grand Trunk “Outer Station” – comprised of the original main building (1855), a brick building(1895-98) and a breezeway.  Badly damaged in a fire and through subsequent neglect, it now stands as a ruin. Options for its future?
Thur, Jan 5, 7:30 pm, RCHA, 193 Ontario St.  2nd floor
More info?  Shirley Bailey – 343-3673-1901

2) City of Kingston Public Meeting:
Speaker:  Ian Semple
Topic: On-street parking in the Inner Harbour:

Wed, Jan 11, 6:30pm, Artillery Park, Multi-purpose room
(This message was received from the McBurney Park Neighbourhood Association via the city.)

Last summer, the City began some consultation and evaluation work about on-street parking regulations and whether changes, including on-street permits, were warranted to address some of the parking issues that have been observed in the neighbourhood.  Since the first public information session last June, City staff have been working to map the area, consult with stakeholders and develop a proposal to recommend to Council.
Prior to finalizing the recommendation to Council, staff will be hosting an information session outlining the proposed changes on Wednesday, Jan 11 at 6:30pm in the Multi-Purpose Room at Artillery Park Aquatic Centre (382 Bagot Street).  This meeting will allow residents and stakeholders to view the potential changes to parking regulations at both a neighbourhood and street level and will afford staff an opportunity to answer any questions and hear comments about the proposal.
A summary of the proposed changes along with detailed mapping will be available several days prior to the meeting on the project website (https://www.cityofkingston.ca/residents/parking/on-street-parking) to allow an opportunity for people to review the information before the meeting or to provide comments if people are not able to attend in person.
Editorial note: There is already some information up on the website, including a map. The area of greatest interest for most people on this e-newsletter is “Potential Area – Inner Harbour Neighbourhood (Area C)” but you can see links to many other potential areas that may also be of interest.
